(The National Training Center for Talents in Fundamental Science Research and Teaching) The Base Class of Geographical Science is one of our national training centers for talents in fundamental science research and teaching in the field of geographical science. The undergraduate geographical science degree program equips students with basic concepts, methods and techniques of geography, geographical information system and remote sensing, and encourages students to develop cultivation of practice and innovation capacities. The graduates should keep pace with the development trend of international geographical science and develop responsible attitudes towards the needs of society and the environment.

2. 070502 Physical Geography and Resource & Environment
The undergraduate physical geography and resource & environment program aim to produce graduates with good knowledge
of the theory and practice of physical geography and resource & environment on which to build a professional career. The
program cover aspects of earth surface development, natural resources management, environmental protection, 3S technology.
Graduates are able to develop responsible attitudes towards the needs of society and the environment in application of
their knowledge in related enterprises and institutions.

3. 070503 Human Geography and Urban-Rural Planning
The undergraduate human geography and urban-rural planning program equip students with a good knowledge and
understanding of geography, urban-rural planning and management science and enable students to develop appropriate practical
and personal transferable skills. The program covers aspects of theory and method of human geography, principle of resource
and environment, theory of middle or small town planning, municipal engineering design and management, laws, policies and
regulations of resources, environment and urban design. Graduates have a wide choice of professional careers within related
fields.

4. 070504 Geographical Information Science
The students major in Geographical Information Science are supposed to learn how to collect, store, manage, analyze, display
and apply the spatial information aided by computers. The subject of GI Science is an interdisciplinary subject integrated computer
science, spatial science, information science, science of surveying, mapping and remote sensing, environmental science and
management science. It plays an important role in the fields of urban planning, urban management for governments at all levels,
land management, environmental monitoring and so on. The department possesses the top-one teaching staff, scientific and
researching capacity and talents fostering quality among the same subject all over the country.

There are now two single honors degree programs offered in geographical information science, and they have different
emphases. The Geographic Information Science (GIS) undergraduate degree program is biased towards the combination of
computer science, spatial science, information science, surveying, mapping and remote sensing, environmental science and
management science. Graduates are able to establish, undertake, manage and develop projects involving region, resources,
transportation, population, housing, land, infrastructure, planning management and related fields.

Cartography and spatial information engineering undergraduate degree program concentrates more on the management of map and map-related data and the presentation of this to map users. The degree course covers cartography, computer, geography, surveying, remote sensing image, photogrammetry, computer cartography, map compilation, map projection transformation, map design, digital map, map electronic publishing, etc. Graduates have a wide range of career opportunities in organizations ranging from public utility companies to suppliers of computer-based mapping technology.

Graduates have the ability of scientific research, teaching, technology development, engineering design and construction, planning management and thereby follow a wide choice of professional careers within environmental fields. Alternatively they may apply their skills in a range of

cadastral management, land valuation, land use planning and land information systems development, graduates could be engaged
