On July3-7, 2016, the 2016 graduates summer school, “Complex Geographic Calculation and Geographic Information Visualization”, started by the School of Resource and Environmental Science, Wuhan University. The university paid special attention on this activity, and built a professional preparing team for the summer school which leaded by professor Lilin, who comes from geographic information science department of School of Resource and Environmental Science. The preparing team made the working instruction including teaching scheme, curriculum provision, teaching program, selection method, students logistic arrangement and so on. In addition, we advertised the summer school with various ways like the School’s website, micro-blog, and QQ group etc.

Since we sent information about the summer school on June 2nd, it had got extensively attention from universities in the whole country, and received 120s applications from 26 universities and scientific research institutions. We picked out 60 candidates from the applications in accordance with type of school, major influence, location of school, personnel capacity and so on. All the candidates are graduate students come from 15 universities like Zhejiang University, East China Normal University, Lanzhou University and so on.

We invited 5 academicians, who specialized on geographic information science and famous in home and abroad, to taught some frontier and hot issues in field of geographic calculation and visualization for 7days. The courses contained geographic information system, remote sensing and satellite navigation with the teaching form which are composed of special report, special lecture and academic exchange.

The summer school is free of tuition and travelling expenses and we also subsidized the board and lodging expenses for the students to make them devote all their energy into study. Moreover, we enacted a safety instruction to make sure the safety of students and purchased commercial insurance for each one. After the summer school finished, the working we did for the summer school obtained a high praise from all students who participated in.
